Kolkata, Oct 28 (KNN)  The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Government of West Bengal have jointly established the Technology Facilitation Centre (TFC) to catalyse growth of the MSME sector of West Bengal through appropriate technological mentoring and intervention.

The programme is being implemented as a CGCRI-led (Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute) Team-CSIR Initiative in partnership with the Government of West Bengal, according to an official note.

CSIR technologies and also technologies from other knowledge institutions of the country will be the source of targeted technology interventions.

The TFC functions as a single-window information repository for technological demand and supply. It acts as a networking hub involving stakeholders.

One of the focus areas of the Centre is capacity building.  This would include skill development, mentoring, grooming entrepreneurs and facilitating stakeholders.  It would also carry out assessment of felt needs – need analysis and gap identification in clusters and districts.

Dissemination of information on technology and links to solution providers is a significant focus area, as also stakeholder networking, towards which it would hold business conclaves, exhibitions, outreach camps, etc.

The Technology Facilitation Centre will also have an Electronic Mass Communication Interface (EMCI).  Under this initiative it would provide - basic news updates regarding the TFC; electronic news letters covering specific technologies and sectors; information updates about specific domains with focus on districts; information about CSIR and other technology providers; calls for proposals; and meeting and exhibition reports.  (KNN/ES)
