Coimbatore, May 13 (KNN)   Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s announcement about allocation of 20 per cent land in State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) for MSMEs and the proposed mega industrial project for the southern cities, has been hailed by Coimbatore units as supportive to new investments and industries.

“This is a timely relief measure for the MSMEs,” said a media report quoting president of the Coimbatore District Small Industries’ Association R Ramachandran, of the package that has been extended specifically to small units in backward areas as well as agro industries.

While he acknowledged that the allocation of land would encourage the setting up of ancillary units for large-scale industries at the industrial estate, he urged the government to increase capital subsidy to 25 per cent.

Echoing similar sentiments, President of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers’ Association D Balasundaram said, the state government should allocate land in each new industrial estate for solar power generation.

Each of the estates had substations and the infrastructure could be used to evacuate power from the solar systems. The units at each estate could jointly generate solar energy for captive generation, he said.

Reiterating that the mega industrial project proposed for the southern districts could boost industrial development in those districts, president of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, R R Balasundaram said the incentives and measures would enhance both the competitiveness of the sector and promote employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, president of the Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Tiny Enterprises J James said the micro units in Coimbatore expected a proposal to set up a multi-storeyed industrial complex.

He said there was no relief for the industries that were in operation now and were hit by financial, power and labour problems.  The state government should provide loan for capital investment at five per cent interest, he said.

Further, Kovai Power Driven Pumps and Spares Manufacturers’ Association president K Maniraj called for increase in subsidy for generators and the need to develop multi-storeyed industrial complexes.

“The State Government should simplify the procedures so that subsidies are available to the units at the earliest,” he added.  (KNN)
