Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 27 (KNN)  With an aim to open a world of opportunities to Indian coir and natural fibre manufacturers, Coir Kerala 2015, the biggest international event of its kind will be held in Alappuzha district from February 1 to 5.

Organised by the Government of Kerala, the five day event will showcase the best coir products to the world and bring together over 170 foreign and 300 domestic buyers with a representation from 46 countries.

Most of all, it will provide a platform for sellers, industry experts, trade bodies, organisations and policy makers to interact, share knowledge, exchange ideas on latest products, display products and services, seek new business opportunities.

It will be an ideal opportunity to explore joint ventures, analyse market trends and innovations in products as well as technology and ascertain the future of the industry as a whole, as per official data.

While Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the event, Union MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra is expected to grace the closing function.

Fifth in the series, the event that is expected to boost production and exports gains significance as it capitalises on the ‘Go Green’ movement and also the growing preference for eco-friendly, natural fibre products across the world as awareness of natural products and their ecological benefits are fast gaining strength.

The event will feature seminars, panel discussions and will see the presence of industry experts, entrepreneurs, policy makers, researchers and academicians, from across the world.

The art of coir fibre extraction has been perfected in Kerala and mastered through generations.

Often called nature’s golden fibre for its golden colour and sheen, coir is undoubtedly the most versatile natural fibre as it can be woven into hundreds of products and more by combining other natural fibres.  Made from the soft husk of coconuts, the fibre is extracted manually or mechanically through a series of processes that include decortication, beating, extraction, drying segregation and spinning.  The spun coir yarn or coir ropes have unlimited applications.  100 per cent biodegradable, coir products promote an eco-friendly lifestyle.  (KNN/ES)
