Cross-LOC trade between Kashmir & POK resumes; MSMEs say MFN or no MFN won’t impact them

Srinagar, Sep 28 (KNN) At a time when the government is planning to take a hard look at the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status to Pakistan, the cross-border trade with India and Pakistan resumed on Tuesday, after being suspended since July 12 this year.

The cross LoC trade between the divided parts of Kashmir resumed after constant persuasion of Jammu & Kashmir Government.

The traders and small entrepreneurs of J&K, especially Kashmir, are going through a severe bad phase due to curfew and shutdown since last Eid this year.

Talking to KNN, Co-Chairman of Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA), J&K, Rajesh Jain said, “The cross-LoC trade between the two sides has resumed. The move would definitely boost the confidence level of the trades in the Kashmir region.”

On Government’s move to think over MFN status given to Pakistan, Jain, however, said that will not at all impact the MSME sector in the region.

He said that even if Cross LOC Trade is not resumed, the industry won’t be hit in the region as the goods shares through the barter trade do not involve any duty or currency.

“It is just goods in exchange of goods. That too they are locally produced goods not the manufactured items,” he said.

A media report quoted the Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce Shalinder Kumar  stating that the transportation of goods from the either sides of Kashmir run four time a week was suspended on July 12 in view of the prevailing situation in valley.

A total of 12 trucks laden with listed goods today cross Peace Bride at Kaman Post in Uri, which connects the two divided parts of Kashmir along the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway. (KNN Bureau)
