Cycle Valley: Ludhiana MSMEs fear of losing biz to Chinese mfg

Ludhiana, July 15 (KNN) The cycle manufacturers of Ludhiana, most of which are Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), are fearing of losing their businesses to the Chinese companies to be established at the Ludhiana Cycle Valley.

Recently, Punjab Government announced to come up with a  300 acres cycle valley project at Dhanansu village of Ludhiana.

Talking to KNN, the General Secretary of United Cycles and Parts Manufacturers Association, Rajeev Jain said that inviting Chinese companies in Ludhiana will impact ‘Make in India’ project.

All that the industry knows is that 300 acres of land has been allotted for the project, said Jain adding that “What incentive the local units would get, no one is aware.”

However, General Secretary said, “If the Government allows only those units to be set up here which manufactures components that India currently imports.”

“Allowing the companies that manufacture the same components as we do would hit the MSMEs here,” he added.

Tenders for procuring bicycles by different state governments have come as a boost for the local cycle industry, but the entrepreneur said that Ludhiana industries are going through a bad phase and are running out of orders.

Talking on huge imports, he stated that, “Government is not curbing the import then how is it possible to promote Make in India.  Industries are not able to run due to costlier raw material, no availability of labour, huge taxes. Many factories here are closed now.” (KNN Bureau)
