DoP, SIDBI Sign MoU for Verification of Informal Micro Enterprises
New Delhi, Jan 1 (KNN) The Department of Posts (DoP), under the Ministry of Communications, and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to undertake Contact Point Verification (CPV) of Informal Micro Enterprises (IMEs) registered on the Udyam Assist Platform (UAP).
The agreement establishes a structured institutional framework for collaboration between the two organisations to support verification, data integrity and credit enablement initiatives for informal micro enterprises across India.
DoP and SIDBI Role
The DoP, with the world’s largest postal network of over 1.64 lakh post offices, brings its extensive last-mile reach, trained field workforce and experience in delivering citizen-centric and business-to-government services to the partnership.
SIDBI is the designated agency for developing and administering the UAP. The platform aims to strengthen the informal micro enterprise ecosystem by promoting formalisation, ensuring data validation and enabling access to institutional credit.
It is instituting a robust CPV mechanism to enhance the accuracy, authenticity and reliability of enterprise-level information.
On-Ground Contact Point Verification Framework
Under the MoU, the DoP will conduct on-ground CPV of enterprises registered on the Udyam Assist Portal using its nationwide postal network.
The verification process will include confirmation of demographic details, business particulars and location-based validation, supported by geo-tagged evidence, in line with the CPV framework prescribed by SIDBI.
Technology-Driven Implementation
The initiative will be implemented through a dedicated CPV mobile application developed by SIDBI, enabling real-time data capture, secure uploading of geo-tagged photographs and timely submission of verification reports.
SIDBI will provide system access, backend infrastructure, operational guidelines and training support to ensure uniform and high-quality execution across regions.
Validity and Key Provisions of the Agreement
The MoU will remain valid for two years, from December 31, 2025, to December 30, 2027, and may be extended on mutually agreed terms. It also includes provisions related to data confidentiality, information security, GST compliance and structured payment mechanisms.
