Bengaluru, Aug 9 (KNN)  The e-commerce and e-tailing platforms can be a great opportunity for the small and medium enterprises to find a leveller with the big players in terms of reaching out to markets. Realising the potential, the Karnataka Government has tied up with big players of the e-commerce to help SMEs leverage the opportunity.

The State Government of Karnataka is partnering with two leading e-retailing companies Snapdeal and Amazon, to create a platform where the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of the state can sell their products, media reports said.

While the timeframe for the platform is yet to be decided, the state government’s Information Technology (IT) Secretary Srivatsa Krishna said the platform would have several thousands of SMEs as part of it.

Significantly, the move would provide a vital marketplace for SMEs to connect with the global market place.

Meanwhile, both Snapdeal and Amazon have confirmed the development.

“We are working with the Karnataka government in enabling small and medium-sized businesses to sell (their products) online and thereby, supply locally but sell nationally. This is in line with the company’s vision of creating life changing experiences for small and medium-sized businesses,” a Snapdeal spokesperson said.

An Amazon India spokesperson said the company was committed to helping Indian sellers of all sizes to get online and take advantage of the digital economy. "Today, we have an expanding pool of over 9,000 sellers who are already growing profitably on our marketplace. We continue to evaluate and work towards enabling more and more sellers in India to benefit from the international and well as the domestic e-commerce opportunity."

The media report quoting Krishna said that the platform would be a “replica of Snapdeal”, and would be “designed and sponsored” by the state government along with the e-commerce companies.   The platforms would be linked to Snapdeal and Amazon.”

In yet another development, the Labour Ministry has signed a MoU with Flipkart for benefiting the MSMEs and artisans in building their capabilities and improving their competitiveness.   (KNN Bureau)
