Efforts being made to expand MSME participation in govt procurement: Union Minister Piyush Goyal

New Delhi, Aug 23 (KNN) Everyone is working to improve the participation of the MSME sector in government procurement, said Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Textiles, Minister of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday.

He said that government is open to ideas in sectors that have huge potential for job generation and Indian standards must be adhered in our tenders.

India will become a developed country by 2047 with the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s set target of 'Panch Pran', said the minister while addressing the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) conclave on preference to 'Make in India' in public procurement.

“Government has an open mind to innovative ideas and it is a collective commitment of the nation that we must emerge as a developed country,” he said.

The minister further emphasised on the significant role of manufacturing sector to help India transform into a developed country.

Highlighting government’s interest to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Government e-Marketplace (GeM), he called upon the industry for cooperation and urged more and more states to come on board.

“Our TRP in public procurement is Trust, Reliability and Prosperity,” added the minister.

He said that government is working to reduce compliance burdens and asked the industry to focus on quality production and be competitive to give consumers good quality products at the right price.  (KNN Bureau)
