Eight States Report Over 10 Million MSME Jobs

New Delhi, Jul 29 (KNN) According to recent data presented in the Lok Sabha, eight states have reported employment figures exceeding 10 million people in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector over the past decade.

Gujarat emerged as a notable performer, with 1.96 million registered MSMEs providing employment to 10.7 million individuals.

This information was disclosed by MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi in response to a query from Member of Parliament Adhikari Deepak Dev.

The ministerial response also revealed that out of the total registered MSMEs in India, approximately 49,342 ceased operations during this period. In Gujarat, this figure stood at 4,861.

Further analysis of the year-wise data on MSMEs across Indian states indicates that Gujarat hosts approximately 210,000 micro enterprises, 30,000 small enterprises, and 5,000 medium enterprises.

Industry experts from the state emphasised the MSME sector's crucial role as a significant employment generator and catalyst for entrepreneurship. They noted a surge in enterprise formation in the immediate aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The data also highlighted that only four states - Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh - reported higher numbers of MSMEs than Gujarat during the period under review.

This report underscores the vital contribution of the MSME sector to India's economy and employment landscape, particularly in key industrial states.
