ESIC increasing its profit, no benefit to workers, say Mohali MSMEs

Mohali, Dec 30 (KNN) Mohali Industries Association (MIA) claimed that the Employee's State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Dispensaries is unable to provide proper service.

MIA said this after ESIC enhanced wage limit from Rs.15000 to Rs.21000 wef 1.1.2017.

“ESIC is not providing any service to the workers in Mohali ,workers have to spend from their own pockets and have to wait up to years for their medical reimbursement,” said Jasbir Singh, Chairman, MIA.

According to MIA, workers have to pay rupees 1170 per month. ESIC is merely focusing on increasing its profit.

“Already ESIC has rupees 3300 crore of profit per year. Now the workers and staff who are drawing wages between this limit have to pay 6.5% of their wages including employer share to ESIC every month. But there is no benefit to the workers in ESIC hospitals in Mohali,” claimed Jasbir.

He told KNN that following the fight with the ESIC, he has filed two more cases against it on Friday.

“Today I have filed two more cases against ESIC in distt forum Mohali, one is of Gurpreet Kaur and other is mahatma Parjapati, who got their medical treatment in PGI Chandigarh in 2013 from their own pocket after referral from ESIC hospital Mohali but till date they didn't get their payments of Rs.279146 and Rs.32814 respectively,” said Mr. Singh.

According to him, he was providing free service to the workers covered under ESIC since many years. More than 10 lakh fine was imposed upon ESIC in last two years by distt. Consumer forum, state commission and national commission.

He also mentioned that MIA has filed Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in high court.

“MIA has filed PIL in Punjab and Haryana high court, which is fixed for 20.2.2017, need to be replied by Union Labour Minister and Director General, ESIC, New Delhi,” said Jasbir to KNN.

According to MIA, all the staff of ESIC are being paid their salaries and other allowances from the ESIC fund as per section 28 of the ESI act 1948 ,which fund is collected from the wages of the poor workers as per section 26 of the ESI act 1948 to serve the workers in case of their medical needs.

“ESIC is being paid through the same poor workers to those they are not providing services, it is a sin,” said MIA chairman. (KNN/RAS)
