Facility Management sector gains significance

New Delhi, Aug 30 (KNN)  Facility Management sector in India, estimated at USD 12.5 billion is gaining significance, its services encompassing more than building and maintaining of a premises to include technical and management skills that help an organisation function smoothly.

Over the years, the sector has transitioned from being a service provider to a business enabler. 
 
To reinforce its importance, the second FM Zone India Leadership Summit 2013 was held here on August-22 and 23.  It was attended by industry leaders from across sectors, providing an opportunity for them to share knowledge, interact and network.  During the event, awards were given for outstanding contributions to the FM fraternity.
 
The event featured sessions on energy efficiency, global workplaces and mindsets, business ethics, corporate governance, business risks, sustainability, complex environments, women empowerment, space management, infrastructure management, innovative strategies, water conservation, efficient logistic support, energy design, etc by experts in the industry.
 
Growing at 25 per cent per annum, the services of the sector require a lot of strategic planning and updated management practices in all aspects of office management at the local, regional and global level. 
 
However, according to industry body, Facility Management Zone (FM Zone), over 95 per cent of the Indian facility management industry is un-regulated.  It therefore requires major reforms, recognition by the government as an important area as well as organization.
 
Established in 2004, FM Zone is a forum of facility managers dedicated to the betterment of facility management staff across different industries in India, a brainchild of Sunil V (Tavant Technologies), Sridhar Raghavendra (Mphasis HP), Ruphus V (Microland), Gilbert Raj (Sonus Networks), Jagannath Rao (LG Soft India).
 
In any organisation, facility managers and administrative managers are key to keeping the business running smoothing, ensuring that all infrastructure related and logistic functions are up and working 24/7. 
 
They play a vital role in activities such as disaster recovery management, business continuity plan, risk management, environmental solutions, sustainable energy, energy  management, collaborative and office integration, corporate security and surveillance, mobility and logistics, occupational health and safety, project management and planning, FM strategic management, waste management, cafeteria and food court management, housekeeping services, building management solutions, corporate travel and vendor management.
 
FM Zone is a forum of over 900 facility managers comprising of senior management level executives of various reputed organizations spread across information technology, banking  and insurance, financial services, telecom, manufacturing, educational and other related industries who have joined hands with the intention of sharing knowledge and best practices to help each other during crisis.   (KNN/ES)
