First meeting on MSME Policy underway in Guwahati

Guwahati, June 27 (KNN) The first meeting on the much awaited Policy for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) is being held here today.

The meeting is being held under the chairmanship of Prabhat Kumar, former Cabinet Secretary and ex-Governor of Jharkhand. MSME Ministry has formed a one man committee headed by Kumar to formulate the MSME Policy.

Also present in the meeting are MSME Secretary KK Jalan and DC-MSME SN Tripathy. Secretary (Industries) of NE Region is also present in the meeting being held at Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati.

Meanwhile, Union MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra on Saturday reiterated that the Centre will unveil the new National Policy for MSMEs in October this year.

Minister said "We wanted to prepare a detailed policy for the sector which contributes nearly 7.8 per cent to the GDP, 50 per cent to the manufacturing sector and 42 per cent to exports. It will be an integrated policy.”

The "all-inclusive" and "integrated" MSME policy will be released in October assured Mishra.

He said the Committee headed by Prabhat Kumar has received around 4,000 suggestions with regard to the policy, which will be made more inclusive. (KNN Bureau)
