New Delhi, July 10 (KNN) Upscaling the skill sets of the workers is a major challenge before the MSMEs today. Skill is a core focus area of Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME). With this view, FISME today signed a MoU with Sector Skill Council for Capital Goods for mapping the skill gaps in the sector as well as ensuring skill development of the existing and would be workers.

“To remain competitive in the market place, MSMEs need to continuously innovate and upscale product quality, to provide value for money to the customer.   To achieve the same availability of appropriate skill with the workers is crucial. The skill gap is wider in the MSMEs as neither have they found the ITI pass out adequately skilled nor they have the resources to formally train the workers in house,” said FISME.

Towards ensuring ‘Job’ linked skilling of the work force, Government initiated setting up of sector skill councils for developing National Occupation Standards and Qualification Packs for he focused sectors.

The Sector Skill Council for Capital Goods is entrusted with standardising the skill sets for workers of the capital goods sector including machine tools, engineering etc which will provide the nuts and bolts to the Make in India drive.

“Keeping in view the specific skill needs as well as working environment in the MSME sector, FISME has taken initiative to link with all sector skill councils where MSMEs have a strong presence,” said the industry body adding that the linkage with the sector skill Council for capital goods sector was the first step in this direction.

As a partner Institution of the Council, FISME will collaborate in mapping of the skill gaps in the Engineering enterprises in the MSME sector and with its strong exposure to the capital good industry will also assess the skill of the youth trained by the training providers under the council.

In the coming days FISME will collaborate with other sector councils too, it said. (KNN Bureau)
