GI tag to help local community go global, says MoS MSME

New Delhi, Jan 29 (KNN) Minister of State for Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma emphasized on the importance and relevance of the GI tag. He said that the tag will help the local community go global.

The Minister was addressing at the International Virtual Conference on Export Promotion of GI Products.

“There is a need to focus on areas that are rich in resources yet lack adequate market connectivity,” said B.B. Swain, Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

The National Institute for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in partnership with Palladium Consulting India Private Limited (PCIPL) is organizing an International Virtual Conference on Export Promotion of GI Products, Mizoram.

The conference is being held virtually from January 29th till February 5th, 2022.

It is sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India under its International Cooperation (IC) Scheme.

Mizoram's Tawlhlohpuan and Mizo Puanchei shawl or wraparound, the most exquisite and intricately designed handwoven textile, has received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag under the Government of India's Department for promotion of industry and internal trade.
