Mysore, Sept 1 (KNN) The government is creating awareness amongst the small entrepreneurs about various subsidy schemes in order to encourage them to establish food processing industries.

The National Mission of Food Processing, District Agricultural Department, Department of Horticulture, District Industries Centre, Mysore Industries Association (MIA) and Mysore District Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Association organised an awareness programme on support schemes for food processing industries.

The main objective of the programme held on Sunday here was to encourage entrepreneurs to establish food processing industries and explore its potential.

According to the General Secretary of MIA, Suresh Kumar Jain, Mysore is ideally situated for setting up food processing units as the region has a vast hinterland of agricultural fields as also two national laboratories —the Central Food Technological Research Institute and the Defence Food Research Laboratory, reports media.

However, there is very little awareness about the subsidy schemes and projects launched by the National Mission for Food Processing to encourage entrepreneurs.  The awareness programme has been held to bridge the information gap.

Mysore has ample wetland.  Farmers in the region would benefit if agro and food-based industries are set up there.  It would not only add value to their agricultural products but also enhance their income and generate new jobs.

More than hundred entrepreneurs attended the programme which was inaugurated by Revenue Minister V Srinivas Prasad. (KNN/SD)
