New Delhi, Jul 10 (KNN) The Government proposes to launch a national multi skill programme for skill development at the level of artisans and workers.

“A national multi-skill programme called Skill India is proposed to be launched. It would skill the youth with an emphasis on employability and entrepreneur skills,” Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in his Budget Speech.

It will also provide training and support for traditional professions like welders, carpenters, cobblers, masons, blacksmiths, weavers, etc and convergence of various schemes to attain this objective is also proposed, he added.

Also, the government will bring about changes in the Apprenticeship Act.

“Comparing the size of the Indian economy, the performance of the Apprenticeship Training Scheme is not satisfactory and a large number of training facilities in the industry are unutilized. Apprenticeship Act will be suitably amended to make it more responsive to industry and youth,” Jaitley said adding, “We will also encourage MSMEs to avail of the benefits of this scheme.” (KNN/SD)
