New Delhi, Nov 14 (KNN)  Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Nirmala Sitharaman said that the India International Trade Fair (IIFT) which began in the capital today is a platform for exporters and entrepreneurs, particularly SMEs to interact with international buyers and investors.

Sitharaman was speaking during the inauguration of the 34th edition of IIFT, one of the largest convergence points for the business fraternity in the Asian region.

“The IITF provides a reliable and tested platform to our exporters and entrepreneurs, from States and Union Territories and the private sector, particularly SME exporters to interact with international buyers and investors,” she said.

Indian enterprises, according to her, truly have mettle to create world class brands.  “While appreciating the Indian exporter for their performance in terms of making a mark in fiercely competitive global markets, I observe that they also have a major role to play in empowerment of millions of disadvantaged in India’s villages by generating sustainable livelihood,” she said.

With regard to this year’s IIFT theme, she said this decade belongs to women entrepreneurs. “They command attention because they are significant. Their domain is not limited to a few traditional business lines. They are no longer followers but visionaries in their own right.
