Indian prisoners to become entrepreneurs

New Delhi, Nov 25 (KNN) Soon Indian prisoners will become entrepreneurs as the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) is expected to help them in setting up small businesses.

Reportedly, the MSME Ministry will engage with prisoners once released and will support them through a pilot project which will commence with Nagpur Central Jail.

Since, these prisoners are likely to get employed because of poor acceptance in society, the government has come forward to help prisoners in setting up businesses.

Support will be provided to start new small scale businesses in manufacturing agarbatti, garments, woodwork, fabrication, making kulhads etc.

Union Minister of MSME, Nitin Gadkari, on several occassions had said, government aims to boost MSME contribution to the country’s GDP to 50 per cent from current 29 per cent and adding 5 crore jobs to the existing 11 crores in the sector.
