Kolar, Jul 16 (KNN)  With plans to revive the defunct Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) and set up a railway coach factory here, the district of Kolar district will get the much needed boost for industrial activity.

The gold mines were shut down in 2001 as they were considered uneconomical.

However, with an aim to protect the interests of the people and provide support to the district, the defunct mines will now be revived, said a media report quoting Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) K H Muniyappa.

Muniyappa definitely has plans to boost and revive micro and small industries on his home turf. Efforts would be made to promote and strengthen industrial units in Kolar in particular, along with the re-commissioning of Bharat Gold Mines Limited (BGML) at KGF.

The Minister was speaking at an event organised by the Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) here recently.

He went on to say that on July 9, the Supreme Court had approved the government’s plan to revive the famous KGF gold mines, 12 years after it was closed down; and global tenders will be called soon.

On their part, the Minister said they will speed up the process and all environmental issues and ecological imbalance will be considered before commissioning the project.  (KNN)
