Jammu MSMEs urge Mufti Govt to re-visit the new Industrial Policy

Jammu, June 13 (KNN) The Jammu based MSMEs met state chief minister Mehbooba Mufti urging her to re-visit the new industrial policy.

A delegation of Association of Industries (AOI), Gangyal district led by Rajesh Jain, President, AOI along with Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) met the Chief Minister on along with Chander Prakash, Minister for Industries & Commerce and other officials.

The delegation requested Mufti for re-visiting the newly formulated Industrial Policy and the shortcomings to be removed to make this industrial policy investment friendly.

Some of the important points which the MSMEs highlighted were – need to upgrade the power infrastructure for new industries; increase the time period for project implementation from 2.6 years to 5 years; lease period for lands to be increased; and need for availability of land at cheaper rated for the small industry.

Talking about the need for Marketing Support, the industrialists said that there are more than 50 industrial units that are engaged in the manufacturing of finished goods supplied to different Government Departments.

“The Purchasing Departments are not favouring/ encouraging purchases from local Micro & Small industrial units,” the delegation said.

The industrialists also requested Mufti to increase the list of items that can be procured from the MSMEs through SICOP.

“Till the time, ideal conditions like good infrastructure, ease of doing business of all the Government Departments are not in place, the conditions imposed in the current industrial policy for project implementation be kept in abeyance and already projects under implementation must be dealt with the previous Industrial Policy,” said the delegation.
