Khadi Commission endeavours to boost exports

New Delhi, May 6 (KNN) Khadi and Village Industries Commission has enlisted more than 800 units to which it will provide incentives, technological support and other assistance to boost khadi exports.

“The Ministry of MSME, in order to boost export of khadi and village industries (KVI) products, has given deemed ‘Export Promotion Council’ status to Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) under which KVIC has enlisted more than 800 units so far,” said Minister for micro, small and medium enterprises KH Muniyappa in Rajya Sabha today.

Apart from this, the government has provided export incentive in the form of 5 per cent free on board (FOB) value up to a maximum of Rs 10 lakh on direct export of KVI products.

The Twelfth Plan proposal has considerable focus on technological upliftment, high value addition and patenting and geographical indications to boost exports.  For the same Plan period, KVIC has set an export target of Rs 1000 crore.
 
Lately, industry body has laid emphasis on quality participation in international exhibitions abroad to tap new and emerging markets for khadi. 

Moreover, with assistance of USD 150 million from Asian Development Bank (ADB), KVIC has also been implementing a comprehensive reform package for the khadi sector namely Khadi Reform and Development Programme (KRDP), which includes capacity building of 300 khadi institutions and incentivising production.

Formation of new khadi institutions is also being promoted by KVIC as evident from the 234 new khadi institutions set up in the country during the last three years. (KNN)
