Khadi has made its place in domestic as well as intl market: MSME Minister

New Delhi, July 6 (KNN) Union Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Minister Kalraj Mishra said that Khadi has been able to make its place in both domestic as well as international market.

Speaking at the unveiling event of "world's largest charkha" at Indira Gandhi International Airport he said that the production of Khadi and its consumption went up after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took initiatives to promote Khadi.

However, he said “We are always concerned about the design and quality of Khadi.”

Government and citizens of the country have special attachment with the Khadi, it is not just a cloth for us, Minister added.

MSME Minister also said that Government is moving forward to promote Khadi in international market.

BJP President Amit Shah appealed to the people to shop for Khadi. "If a person buys Khadi even worth Rs 5,000 a year, it would generate lakhs of employment and would help feed hundreds of poor people who produce such products," Shah said.

On the lines of PM's 'Make in India' initiative, GMR group chairman G M Rao announced that DIAL would adopt Khadi as the summer and winter uniform for its entire airport staff. Rao also said that the idea behind displaying the world's biggest charkha at the country's busiest airport was to inculcate the feeling of Swadeshi among travellers and visitors. (KNN Bureau)
