Khadi is chic; fashion shows on cards

There will be four fashion shows titled Khadi Paridhan Utsav held at various locations in the national capital region, according to a press notification.
In this context, Khadi Gramodyog Bhawan is looking for event managers to organise the fashion shows.
Khadi is no longer considered to be humble, coarse and beige. It has gained popularity across the country because it is a versatile and eco-friendly fabric which is climate adaptable – cool in summer and warm in winter. The material is handspun and hand-woven in colours that are skin friendly.
Khadi is handspun cloth, a mix of cotton, silk or wool, spun into thread on the Charkha. The Mahatma spinning khadi became an icon of the Swadesi movement, symbolising self-employment, self-reliance and self-pride.
Today, it is a far finer cloth with a higher thread count and prominent designers have given it a new look using the fabric in kurthas, kurthis, jackets, dhotis and saris. It certainly does allow you to create an ethnic look with ease.
Over the years it has also gained significance internationally as designers have discovered the strong organic and natural character of the Khadi fabric. (KNN/ES)
