Bengaluru, Sept 18 (KNN)  To offer employment opportunities to unemployed youth and housewives, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is offering a free month long agarbatti artisan course here from October-1.

The Multi Disciplinary Training Centre of KVIC will implement the programme.

During the course, participants will be provided free hostel accommodation and will also receive a stipend of Rs 800 per month for residential trainees and Rs 500 for non-residential trainees.

The course will train and guide participants to start their own agarbatti manufacturing units.

The Multi Disciplinary Training Centre (MTDC) set up by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission at Dooravaninagar for the past six decades, has been providing short-term training at a minimal cost, on a wide range of arts and crafts.

Its courses, running between two to six months, include tailoring and embroidery, beautician training, mobile hardware making and repair, bakery, candle making, agarbatti making, detergent powder making, pottery, paper conversion and leather works.

The courses are free for women, minorities, scheduled castes and tribes and backward communities.

There are 15 Multi Disciplinary Training Centres (MDTCs) of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) functioning across the country.   Besides, there are six Departmental Training Centres of State Khadi and Village Industries Boards (KVIBs) and 18 institutional training centres also functioning.

In these training centres,  specialised training programmes like bee-keeping, handmade paper, bio-technology, spice making, leather, pottery, oils and soaps, etc are conducted keeping in view the local demand.

Further, to accelerate the process of rural industrialization in the country,  a national level institute namely ‘Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Rural Industrialisation” has been operationalised  at Wardha, Maharashtra in association with IIT, Delhi by revamping Jamnalal Bajaj Central Research Institute.  (KNN)
