Lakshadweep gets coir SFURTI cluster

Lakshadweep, May 18 (KNN) Union Minister of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, Kalraj Mishra last week inaugurated coir cluster under the Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI), developed by Coir Board Kochi and Director of Industry Lakshadweep at Androth Island.

“Kalraj Mishra Union Minister Micro Small and Medium Enterprises inaugurated coir SFURTI Cluster developed by Coir Board Kochi and Director of Industry Lakshadweep today 14th May 2015 at Androth Island. Among other Mohd Faizal MP and SN Tripathi Chairman Coir Board and senior officials were present,” MSME Ministry said on its Facebook post today.

The minister highlighted the need for convergence of social security schemes like PM Jan Dhan PM Jyoti PM Social Security and Atal Pension Yojana in addition to income generation schemes like PMEGP CUY SFURTI and ASPIRE.

He also reviewed the progress of development work in the island union territory, the Facebook post revealed.

Member of Parliament Mohd Faizal, Administrator of Lakshadweep H Rajesh Prasad, Chairman of Coir Board, SN Tripathi and senior officials were among others present in the inaugural ceremony.

Collector J AshokKumar made a PowerPoint presentation on the prospects of coir and fishing industries on the economic life of people.

Administrator, Prasad briefed about the development priorities of the island UT.

SFURTI has an aim to enhance marketability of products of such clusters by providing support for new products, design intervention and improved packaging and also the improvement of marketing infrastructure.

Planning Commission’s Working Group on XII Plan has recommended continuation of SFURTI with its existing components like replacement of equipment, setting up of common facilities, support for development of new products, designs, packaging, market promotion and capacity building activities.
