Legal metrology helps entrepreneurs comply with established norms

Kolkata, Jun 25 (KNN)  To help entrepreneurs control the quality of their products with regard to certain ideal measures or control gauges, as well as to ensure their compatibility with established norms and practices, FOSMI is organising a session on Legal Metrology here.
 
The session to be taken by Joint Controller of Legal Metrology Sajal Kanti Jana will be held on June-27.
 
Legal Metrology is an area which affects all entrepreneurs, said Secretary, Federation of Small and Medium Industries (FOSMI), H Ganguly, on the need for such a meeting.
 
“Legal metrology” means that part of metrology which treats units of weighment and measurement, methods of weighment and measurement and weighing and measuring instruments, in relation to the mandatory technical and legal requirements which have the objects of ensuring public guarantee from the point of view of security and accuracy of the weighments and measurements,” according to the Department of Consumers Affairs.
 
The Legal Metrology Act, 2009 (1 of 2010) was implemented with effect from 1st April, 2011 the preamble of the act is as follows: “An act to establish and enforce standards of weights and measures, regulate trade and commerce in weights, measures and other goods which are sold or distributed by weights, measure or number and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto”.  (KNN/ES)
