Leh Workshop Helps MSMEs Explore Public Procurement, Finance And Export Opportunities

Leh, Sep 16 (KNN) A national-level workshop in Leh on Tuesday familiarised local entrepreneurs and artisans with public procurement, Government e-Marketplace (GeM) onboarding, quality certification, financing and export promotion opportunities available to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The one-day workshop was aimed at helping businesses access government procurement opportunities, improve product quality and packaging, secure institutional finance and explore national and international markets.

Focus On Government Procurement And Quality

The technical sessions covered MSME Ministry schemes, vendor registration and public procurement procedures, including presentations by officials from GeM, NSIC and POWERGRID.

Representatives from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Quality Council of India (QCI) briefed participants on BIS certification, Zero Defect, Zero Effect (ZED), Quality Control Orders and quality requirements for public procurement.

The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) also conducted a session on packaging, highlighting its relevance to market access and exports.

Entrepreneurs Briefed On Finance, Exports

The workshop also covered export promotion, with officials from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) outlining opportunities and procedures for exporters.

SIDBI officials briefed participants on financing schemes, while the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) highlighted credit-linked financing through the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) portal.

The session also covered value addition and infrastructure upgradation for key Ladakh products, including pashmina, apricot and seabuckthorn.

Push For Local Products To Reach Wider Markets

Administrative Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, UT Ladakh, Himanshu Gupta, highlighted MSME schemes including the Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme and PMEGP. 

He also said the UT Administration was exploring a credit scheme to support aspiring entrepreneurs.

Director, Planning, Tsewang Gyalson, urged local entrepreneurs to leverage Ladakh’s resources and explore national and international markets for locally produced goods.

The workshop also stressed the importance of Udyam Registration for accessing MSME schemes and encouraged entrepreneurs to regularly use official online portals to stay updated on government programmes.

The workshop was organised by the MSME Development and Facilitation Office (MSME-DFO), Jammu, under the Ministry of MSME.
