Many states fall short of MSME job target

New Delhi, Jun 6, (KNN) Most states have not done well in the utilisation of Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) funds, contrary to the statement issued by the ministry of MSME patting its back.

The four states which were low on utilising funds are Chandigarh, Delhi, UP and Sikkim.

The highest allocation was given to Uttar Pradesh at Rs 147.89 crore in 2012-13 out of which it utilised Rs 104.64 crore and created 36091 jobs.

Delhi was given Rs 3.68 crore out of which it utilised Rs 1.05 crore to create 1040 jobs.

Chandigarh performed the worst in creating jobs. It could only utilise Rs 34 lakh out of Rs 1.35 crore to create 87 jobs, while Sikkim spent Rs 75 lakh to create 245 jobs.

On the other hand, other states like Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Assam and Himachal Pradesh utilised more funds than what was given to them.

The state of Jammu and Kashmir spent Rs 21.13 crore to create 11902 jobs while Himachal spent Rs 12.59 crore to create 4171 jobs in 2012-13.

Other states like West Bengal and Assam which are important from the point of view of MSME manufacturing spent Rs 60.99 crore and Rs 29.18 crore to create 42820 and 11548 jobs respectively.

These states performed better in 2011-12 in terms of amount spent and jobs created.

Strategically important state Jammu and Kashmir spent Rs 29.83 crore to create 15360 jobs while Himachal spent Rs 11.52 crore to create 61092 jobs. 

The other states like West Bengal and Assam spent Rs 55.81 crore and Rs 55.44 crore to create 61092 and 44205 jobs respectively.   (KNN)
