Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd to procure products worth Rs 10,000 cr from MSMEs in UP in next 8-10 years

Lucknow, Jan 17 (KNN) Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in association with Indian Industries Association (IIA) organized a Road Show at IIA Bhawan in the state capital where MDL explained in detail their requirements which they intend to source from the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

MDL will procure products and equipment worth Rs 10000 crore from MSMEs in next 8 to 10 years.

“This is an excellent opportunity for MSMEs in Uttar Pradesh,” said RAdm A K Saxena, Director, MDL who was heading a team of Senior Officers of MDL in the Road Show at IIA Bhawan.

The Road Show was attended by more than 50 industrialists from across Uttar Pradesh.

Saxena said the Road Show was organized with the prime focus on DefExpo-2020 wherein MDL will showcase their technologies and requirements in details.

“MSMEs cannot export bulk orders of the products and equipments due to many constraints, MDL can help these MSMEs in exporting the items which are in the purview of MDL,” said Saxena.

“Requirements of Indian Navy are of very high quality hence the specifications are stringent. Therefore only those industries will be able to supply the products & equipments to MDL who will meet these quality standards. Hence MSMEs should ensure that the products they intend to supply to MDL are type tested. Details of the agencies engaged in providing type testing facilities can be made available by MDL,” said RAdm Saxena.

S R Devikar, General Manager, Materials MDL & J.Kumaran DGM, MDL explained in details the requirements and the process for registrations for supplying goods and equipments to MDL.

Devikar said that there are 84 items where no pre-experience is required for supply to MDL .

“Hence new entrepreneurs can pitch in to supply these items to MDL. List of items for Startups are also available on MDL website. Even for items which are not listed on MDL website for procurement, MSMEs can send the details of the products/ equipment’s not in the list to MDL . After examining the details & MDL requirement for the same, MDL will get back to the MSME suitably. MDL is prompt in making payments of the MSMEs for the supplies made by them,” said Devikar.
Biju George, General Manager, MDL and Satish Chandra Chief Manager MDL also addressed the participants.

In his address, Manmohan Agarwal, General Secretary, IIA said that IIA will act as a bridge between MSMEs in UP and MDL for meeting the requirement of both.

IIA will organize periodic visits of its members in a group to MDL Mumbai to have a look at the actual products/ items/ equipment’s required by MDL.

He explained the role of in developing UP Defence Corridor as well as Defence production Facilitation Facility at IIA. Participants present in the Road Show were also invited to register for 1st ever Defence Industry Directory being brought out by IIA & UPEIDA jointly.
