New Delhi, May 14 (KNN) The government is planning to organise small units into specialised groups so that it is easier for them to take full benefits of various government schemes according to MSME secretary Madhav Lal.

“The government is initiating action for organising Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) based on their specialisation and domain knowledge to enable them to adopt and absorb the various developmental schemes rolled out by the government.  A framework was being put in place where the responsibility, legal rights and obligations of each sector specific industry associations would be spelt out,” he said here today.

The move will bring together MSME industry associations dealing with a particular sector ensuring that the coverage of schemes is enlarged and their adoption is expedited.

Inaugurating FICCI- accounting firm Grant Thornton report on 'Integrating MSME with the Global Value Chain' he called for urgent need to empower MSMEs to sharpen their competitive edge.

“Indian MSMEs need to offer greater value to their partners so as to improve the overall competitiveness of the value chains. Also, it is equally important for MSMEs to understand and adhere to the international standards and norms for becoming a preferred supplier in the global value chain,” he said.

Apart from this, the government is implementing various schemes like micro and small enterprises cluster development programme, credit linked capital subsidy scheme for technology upgradation, credit guarantee scheme, MSME market development assistance scheme and lean manufacturing and IT applications to boost employment generation.

Advocating the need for financial incentives from government for technology upgradation by small units, FICCI MSME committee, chairman, Sanjay Bhatia said, “The government could grant financial incentives to the MSMEs for promoting technological upgradation so that MSMEs can invest in appropriate technology which constantly needs to be upgraded to survive in the Global Value Chain (GVC).”

“The government should make efforts for strengthening the national systems for certification, accreditation and calibration so that the MSMEs are able to meet the international quality standards,” he added.

Also, FICCI announced the setting up of the FICCI Confederation of MSMEs to give a fillip to enterprises in these sectors and integrate them with the global value chain.  (KNN)
