MSMEs create more jobs than agriculture, says MoS MSME Sarangi

New Delhi, Sept 6 (KNN) The Union Minister of State for MSME Pratap Chandra Sarangi has termed the MSMEs as one of the largest sector in terms of job creation in the country after agriculture.

While speaking on the state-level workshop on Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme here on Thursday, he said, "MSMEs have immense potential to drive economic growth and create more jobs. It is the second largest sector after agriculture in job creation."

He said the youth should be encouraged to start their own businesses.

The statement came a day after, Nitin Gadkari, lauded the contribution of MSME sector in GDP.

Union Minister said that the sector contributes 29 per cent towards India’s GDP.

Meanwhile, Sarangi also said that some bankers are not supporting the khadi industry.

“There are many cases of non-cooperation from banks, and non-availability of markets. We must find a solution to this,’’ he said.

He also urged banks to be reasonable with entrepreneurs as they are in a position to create jobs. 

Sarangi further said that khadi is a symbol of the freedom movement which provides livelihoods to millions. (KNN/ AC)
