Industry in Nellore consisting of both, large scale as well as small units, has been facing a directed favour of government policies towards larger units.
The small units have a composition consisting of huge percentage of food and agro-based industry and engineering-based industries which were among top with 12.6 and 12.3 pc respectively. Miscellaneous products and services constitute 40.8 pc of the total number of units.
As per the industry, “No effective steps have been taken by authorities concerned to utilise the new policy of the government to provide seed capital for new MSMEs”.
Agreeing to the statement, Sairam of Shridhar Textiles said“There is a lack of support for small industries from the state government”. “They are more directed towards the established companies. Also, corruption is the source of suffering for the small industry” he added.
The district has an interesting mix of traditional and modern industry, ranging from small artisan worksheds to huge multi-national companies, and has many traditional handloom and handicraft clusters.
Nellore, when compared to other parts of the state, has been suffering tremendously as no significant revenue is being generated from the produces. The MSMEs in the district are facing financial distress. (KNN Bureau)
