No official record of MSME units shut due to pandemic; new discount scheme awaits: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi, Feb 3 (KNN) There is no official data on how many MSME units were shut down due to Covid-19 pandemic, however the government is cognizant that it had terrible impacted the economy and we are working on a special discount for the MSME sector, said Commerce Minister Piysh Goyal addressing the Lok Sabha.

This reply by the union minister came as a response to the allegations put forward during the question hour in the lower house by Leader of Opposition Adhir Ranjan stating that 60 lakh MSMEs were shut down and the accusing government for doing nothing to aid them.

MSME sector has been our focus and the government made sure there was adequate liquidity and credit was provided to them, said minister Goyal.

“Rs 4.5 lakh crore government loans were distributed to the MSME sector and we will ensure that all MSMEs get support as we are,” he added.

He refrained from making it a political issue, but however pointed out the neglect Indian industry went through during the congress party regime and spoke about the PLI scheme launched in 14 sectors as the government is trying to make India into a hub of global manufacturing and supply,” he added.

This statement of Union Commerce Minister was met with strong opposition from Choudhury. (KNN Bureau)
