No plan of national lockdown; seeking feedback from MSMEs: Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi, Apr 18 (KNN) The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has ruled out the possibility of imposing lockdown in the country despite recent surge in COVID-19 cases.   

''There is no plan of national lockdown and focus would be on creating small containment zones to stop the spread,'' Dr Animesh Saxena, President, The Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME) quoted the Minister as saying.   

FM Nirmala Sitharaman called FISME President Dr Animesh Saxena today to convey the preparedness by the government to handle recent surge of COVID cases.

"She said Hon’ble PM and Home Minister are in constant touch with all states to monitor the situation and providing all assistance regarding availability Oxygen, essential medicines and medical facilities. She wanted our inputs for addressing any of our concerns,'' Saxena told KNN India on Sunday.

FISME President further said that in this regard, the association comprising of 740 sectoral and regional associations to hold consultations with member associations on Wednesday. 

India saw the deadliest day of the pandemic as 1,501 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. The country also recorded the biggest daily surge in cases with 2,61,500 infections, taking the caseload to 1.47 crore total cases. 

This is the fourth straight day when over 2 lakh cases have been recorded. Over 12 lakh cases have been added to the caseload in the last one week.
