The event will be supported by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, a Times of India report said.
Passed on through generations, Oriya’s awe inspiring handicrafts, largely created by small and medium enterprises include Patta Chitra, Sand Art, Metal Work, Silver Filigree, Stone Carving and making Puppets and Masks etc. The event will be brought to life by live demonstrations.
The state is also known for its food products made of rice, marine products, oil, spices and other agricultural products. It is hoped that the programme will attract investment in the food processing sector.
Further, to draw more international visitors to the coastal state, the roadshow will help promote its tourist destinations, the TOI report quoted MSME secretary Panchanan Dash as saying. Each year the state sees about 5000 tourists from Italy.
The state government, according to the report, is planning to create a market facility for Odisha's handicraft and food processing products. The programme also aims at locating potential buyers in Italy for products from the state.
Similar roadshows will also be organised in other European and Asian countries, including China, Japan, Taiwan, Britain, Germany and Israel, to draw foreign direct investment in plastic, polymers and food processing, the TOI report added. (KNN Bureau)
