Over 8.84 Crore MSMEs Registered On Udyam Platforms: MoS Karandlaje

New Delhi, Jul 20 (KNN) Minister of State for MSMEs Shobha Karandlaje informed Parliament on Monday that registrations on the Udyam portal have steadily increased since its launch in July 2020, reflecting growing formalisation in the micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector.

As of June 30, 2026, over 8.84 crore enterprises have registered on the Udyam Registration Portal (URP) and the Udyam Assist Portal (UAP).

In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Karandlaje said registrations rose from 28.13 lakh in 2020–21 (a partial year) to over 2.48 crore in 2023–24, before moderating slightly in subsequent years, indicating sustained expansion in formal MSME participation.

RAMP Scheme Covers Multiple Sectors

The minister highlighted that the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance Programme (RAMP) continues to support enterprises across sectors through a set of five major interventions.

The initiative underscores Centre–State collaboration, with all States and Union Territories participating and more than Rs 3,000 crore approved for strategic investment plans (SIP).

She noted that it also advances green financing through the MSE Green Investments and Financing for Transformation (MSE-GIFT) component, which has benefited over 6,300 MSMEs, while promoting a circular economy under the MSE Scheme for Promotion of Investment in Circular Economy (MSE-SPICE) initiative that has supported 30 enterprises so far.

Additionally, the MSME Trade Enablement and Marketing (TEAM) programme strengthens trade enablement, with more than 75,000 MSMEs registered on the TEAM portal for marketing support. It also facilitates the resolution of delayed payments through the MSE Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) Scheme, under which nearly 27,000 cases have been registered on the ODR Portal, Karandlaje added.

Push for Digitalisation and Exports

The minister emphasised that the government has outlined a series of measures to promote digitalisation and enhance global competitiveness in line with the Viksit Bharat@2047 vision

These include the formalisation of informal micro enterprises through the Udyam Assist Platform, integration of the Udyam Registration Portal with the National Career Service (NCS) Portal, eShram Portal and Skill India Digital Portal, and strengthened grievance redressal through the CHAMPIONS Portal.

Digital transactions are also being encouraged under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, alongside entrepreneurship and skill development programmes and support through technology centres.

To boost exports, 65 Export Facilitation Centres have been set up to guide MSMEs on international trade and related schemes.

Support for Rural Clusters

Under the Micro and Small Enterprises Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP), the government is providing financial assistance to develop common facility centres and upgrade infrastructure in industrial clusters. The scheme is demand-driven, with proposals submitted by states and union territories, Karandlaje noted.

Government Defends Payment Rule Under Tax Law

Addressing concerns over Section 43B(h) of the Income Tax Act—introduced through the Finance Act 2023—the minister said the provision is aimed at ensuring timely payments to MSMEs within 45 days.

While some reports suggested unintended consequences such as buyers shifting to unregistered vendors, she stated that many stakeholders have supported the measure as it improves liquidity and payment discipline for small enterprises.

The minister added that deregistration rates remain low, at about 0.6 per cent of total registered MSMEs, indicating limited adverse impact.
