Planning Commission studies MSME clusters to boost employment

Tirupur, June 5 (KNN) Given the increasing unemployment problem in the country, the Planning Commission is conducting a survey in 10 MSME clusters including Tirupur to get a broader understanding of the hurdles faced by the sector, so that the right policies are developed to boost employment.
The Institute of Applied Manpower Research under the Planning Commission of India has started studying the major problems faced by MSMEs in Tirupur knitwear cluster.
The other clusters where the study is to be conducted are Surat, Panipat and Ludhiana (textiles/apparels), Ambur and Agra (leather), Meerut and Jalandhar (sports goods), and Saharanpur and Ahmedabad (furniture).
The data is being collected through an online methodology, after which the report would be tabled before the Planning Commission shortly.
In order to understand the hurdles faced by Tirupur apparel businessmen that prevent them from expanding their business further, the Planning Commission is studying the current infrastructure, air and railway connectivity with ports, need for government assistances and whether adequate credit was available for capacity expansion, reports media.
These data would be utilised by the Planning Commission while developing the policies for enhancing the growth and employment in MSME clusters. (KNN/SD)
