New Delhi, Apr 24 (KNN)  With frequent power cuts and water shortages, plastic units in the Delhi NCR  region anticipate a long, hot and expensive summer ahead.

While water and power woes are common each year, Udyog Nagar Industrial Area, opposite Peeragarhi has been the worst hit.

“There is frequent electricity failure as well as water scarcity and shortage.  As a result units there dread the summer.  As far as H-34 of the Industrial Area is concerned, it has had no water for the past five years.  Ironically the bills keep coming; and despite a number of complaints, no action has been taken,” Secretary General, All India Plastic Industries Association, P P Tuteja told KNN.

Over the last week, Filmistan area that is home to several plastic industrial units saw 2-3 hour power cuts, according to him.  The Palam area was no different with a 5 hour power failure on the night of April-23.  Moreover the water supplied in the area is not of portable quality.

The fast approaching peak of summer has entrepreneurs apprehensive about these basic requirements.

“Yes, as every summer, there may be problems in this regard, and we need to brace ourselves for the challenges,” Tuteja said.

Meanwhile, owing to several complaints with regard to power and water, the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi, Najeeb Jung has asked the concerned Departments to ensure adequate supply this summer.

In addition to holding routine meetings at the Secretariat in this regard, the LG intends to set up control rooms to fast-track redressal of complaints, appoint additional junior engineers and zonal revenue officers to man operations, replace faulty water tankers, check encroachment on drains, look into de-silting of drains and curb power theft, in addition to conducting raids.

Commenting on the Governor’s proposed steps, “If such measures are taken, there will be no problem for us,” Tuteja said.  (KNN/ES)
