Power cuts hampering production process, small scale industries suffering in Jammu-Kashmir

New Delhi, Dec 18 (KNN) Raising the issue of errant power supply in the region, industry bodies have written to power department officials lamenting that the power cuts is badly impacting the industry of the region, comprising largely of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

Talking to KNN, Lalit Mahajan, President of MSME body Bari Brahmana Industrial Association (BBIA) informed that the power cuts is starting to become the new normal impacting the MSMEs severely.

Mahajan said that the power issue in the region is persistent despite the state power department earning as much as 140 crores as revenue from a group of industries alone.

Not only is there errant power supply, thee is also poor maintenance of the same, making the industrial process impossible to function in a smooth manner., he added.

Also the grid stations are badly made, with open wires and cable, making the station a risk factor for the industries, Mahajan said.

Earlier another industry body, Birpur Small Scale Industries Association (BSSIA) raised similar concerns in a press statement.

It informed that the industries are starving of regular power supply. Frequent power cuts, low voltage, power suspension for days at end, all pile up for huge losses to the industrial sector, it said.

The association further said that it has reported the matter to the concerned officials, yet no action in the line has been initiated so far.

Small scale industry of any region is essential for the economy of the place since it adds to the growth as well as generates a lot of employment for the local youth, despite this the sector faces a time of negligence, BBSIA added.

Not only does the errant power supply hinder the production process, it also poses serious threat and impact on the overall life of the machinery, leaving further gaps for liabilities on the end of the unit.

The power supply goes off from 5-6 minutes every hour to 5-6 hours in the entire day, the small scale industries pay the bill in time, the government must take into account these concerns, the association lamented. (KNN/DA)
