Power generation, real estate, infra units categorized under MSME definition

New Delhi, Dec 20 (KNN)  Ministry of MSME has categorized Power generation (conventional or non-conventional) and cotton ginning as ‘Manufacturing’ under the definition of MSME.

The Office of the Development Commissioner (MSME) under the Ministry has recently issued a clarification to this effect.

The communiqué has also categorized the following activities under ‘Services’ to be covered by MSME definition namely: retreading of tyres, power distribution, infrastructure an real estate services, warehouses, godowns and cold storages.    

According to definition of MSME under MSMED Act 2006, the manufacturing units are defined as ones having investment  in plant and machinery (excluding land and building): Micro ( up to Indian Rupees 2.5 million), Small (2.5 to 50 Million) and Medium (50 to 100 Million).

Similarly the service MSMEs are thus defined:  Micro (up to Indian Rupees 1 million), Small (1 to 20 Million) and Medium (20 to 50 Million). (KNN/AB)
