Dehradun, Mar 28 (KNN) The proposed increase in power tariff by Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) across the state by 19.5 per cent from the next financial year is likely to hit hard the manufacturing sectors.

According to reports, small scale industries and other heavy scale industries will face hike of 26.67 per cent and 22.08 per cent respectively, if UERC (Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission) approves the proposal.

However, UERC officials have claimed that hike in the tariff for domestic, commercial and other consumers would be done 'judiciously'.

The proposal sent by the UPCL clearly highlighted 8.39 per cent hike for domestic consumers and 21.04 per cent hike for the commercial consumers.

UERC has sought approval from the Election Commission before giving its nod for the proposed hike in the power tariffs for the consumers.

It is also equally pertinent to mention here that the UERC had approved five per cent hike for the power tariff against the UPCL proposal of around 50 per cent in the current financial year. (KNN/ST)
