Ajmer, November 11 (KNN)  Thousands of artisans are currently displaying their unique ethnic wares at the most colourful and only one of its kind in the world, the Pushkar Fair.

Each year, the fair attracts thousands of rural folk, who bring their cattle and camel for several days of livestock trading that is combined with a religious festival that attracts both domestic and international visitors.

The Pushkar Fair is being held here from November 9-17 this year.

During the event each year, the town is transformed into a cultural phenomenon featuring colourfully dressed devotees, musicians, acrobats, folk dancers, traders, comedians, and tourists who assemble in large numbers.

While camel and cattle trading dominates the first half of festival, the latter half is rife with religious activities.

A special attraction is the fairground that sees rows and rows of makeshift stalls displaying  all kinds of articles – from those for everyday use to spectacular art and decorative items for cattle, camel and women.  Moreover, artisans bring in their unique handicraft items offering the best bargains.

Camel and horse races are a high light of the event while the evenings see a line-up of folk dances and music of the region.  (KNN/ES)
