Quality industry bodies to get government accreditation, benefits

“The objective of accreditation is to establish a standard of organizational competency amongst the BMOs, at the same time enabling a mechanism for government, banks, large buyers, national and international agencies to partner with better performing BMOs.
The Accreditation will help the BMOs to assess its objectives, resources, program of work, processes and procedures, achievements and impacts; and plan for more effective and sustainable initiatives, it added.
Some of the benefits of Accreditation will be that – it will be a public announcement from Quality Control of India about the superior quality adhering to standards and quality; the process will help various government ministries (particularly the Ministry of MSME) to identify and select better performing BMOs for incentivizing, in a rational and unambiguous manner; it will help in leveraging funds from national and international agencies etc.
The scheme would be launched by Secretary, Ministry of MSME, Madhav Lal on August 23.
In order to bring greater transparency in the functioning of BMOs, while ensuring standard of quality and performance, ‘Voluntary Accreditation of BMOs’ is being introduced to ensure minimum standards of governance, operations, quality and performance amongst them, NABET said in a statement.
NABET, Quality Council of India (QCI) with support from the MSME umbrella programme (jointly implemented by the office of DC MSME, Ministry of MSME, SIDBI and GIZ) has developed accreditation criteria for BMOs in India aligned to international best practices.
BMOs or the industry associations have the potential to play a key role in aggregating the need and demand of micro and small units and help their members in overcoming several challenges faced by MSMEs whether in accessing factors of production like finance, material, human resource or technology or in accessing markets and public or private support services, said NABET.
They are also an important intermediary for cost effective outreach to MSME for all stakeholders including government, it added.
Accreditation system will follow a graded approach for recognition and BMOs will be accredited under three types – Diamond, Gold and Silver bases upon the performance of the BMO. (KNN/SD)
