RBI town hall meeting on MSEs in Andaman

Port Blair, Dec 20 (KNN) Financial Inclusion and Development Department, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Kolkata organised a Town hall meeting in Port Blair to spread awareness among the common man about micro and small enterprises (MSE) guidelines and policies and to promote growth of the sector, said a media report.

The programme covering MSME related issues was inaugurated by lighting of ‘MSE Vikas Deep’ by Regional Director, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Sikkim RN Kar on December 19, 2014 at Auditorium of Anthropological Survey of India.

Chairman and Managing Director, Allahabad Bank Rakesh Sethi, Executive Director, Indian Overseas Bank, Atul Agarwal and a large number of dignitaries of commercial banks, state government and district administration were also present.

The objective of the programme was to reach out to the MSE entrepreneurs and more specifically to the micro enterprises, create awareness among entrepreneurs about the banking facilities and the advantage of linking with the formal banking system, said the report.

The town hall meeting provided a platform to get feedback on the problems being faced by them in accessing bank finance etc. and create a base for two way communication amongst all the stakeholders like banks and government functionaries.

A large number of entrepreneurs and would be entrepreneurs as well as general public participated in the programme.

In his address, the RBI Regional Director highlighted the niche of MSE sector in growth of the country and also elaborated the unsatisfactory growth of the sector in the urban territories.

Citing the problems faced by the sector, Kar recounted on various supports measures and policies initiatives taken by the apex bank and government to promote growth of the sector and also he indicated the problems faced by the sector.

He also encouraged all the participants to ponder over the issues, challenges and opportunities of the sector and urged all the stake holders to carry the same forward with passion.

Principle Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Reena Ray said that for the development of the islands, all the banks must come up with various plans and different prospective for overcoming the weakness and bringing forth some easy payable low interest loan schemes.

The programme featured the conglomeration of all stakeholders and partners under one roof with a view to identify the road blocks in growth of MSEs in the districts and to explore the ways and means to overcome the same, it said. (KNN Bureau)
