New Delhi, Jan 22 (KNN)  Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Giriraj Singh has asked famous fashion designer, Ritu Kumar to popularise Khadi amongst the fashion designer fraternity.

In a meeting held here on Wednesday, ways and means of popularizing the use of 'Khadi' products were deliberated upon, as per the Ministry’s social media site.

During the meeting, Singh emphasised that contemporary products and designs can go a long way in popularizing 'Khadi' amongst the youth population of India.

Importantly, three areas were identified as being critical for achieving the objective.  For starters, the importance of branding in the field of ‘Khadi’ and how it can be pitched as a moral fibre, goodwill fibre, being environment friendly, ethical and ethnic, etc was discussed.

Secondly, promotion of Khadi through fashion shows and involving more fashion designers in khadi textiles could also contribute substantially to providing a boost to the sector.

Further, involvement in the supply chain of yarns production as per the increase in demand of khadi product, namely the supply / production needs to be in accordance to the demand; would also help meet the objective.

Singh assured the fashion designer that the Ministry of MSME is committed towards extending all possible help for maintaining and improving competitiveness of the micro and small units engaged in Khadi production.

The Minister reiterated that ‘Khadi has special significance in the country, as it is a proud legacy of its national freedom movement and Mahatma Gandhi.  (KNN/ES)
