New Delhi, Apr 2 (KNN) The Supreme court will be hearing the plea of Delhi traders to stop the ongoing sealing drive impacting the business in state and rendering a huge chunk unemployed, Confederation of All India Traders informed.

Talking to KNN, Narendra Madan, Chairman of CAIT said that with the chaos around the entire issue and the trade in Delhi coming to a standstill, the small traders are looking at Supreme Court with a lot of hope expecting a favourable decision today.

“The situation in the national capital has moved beyond worse, we are hoping that the apex court will have a sympathetic approach to solving our problems today”, Madan said.

He further informed that in case the decision is not favourable, trade associations across the state will gather and deliberate upon sitting on an indefinite hunger strike.

“Since Day 1 of the sealing row, traders have raised their problem in a democratic way abiding by the rule of law. In case our concern isn’t addressed we will continue to do the same and protest”, he said.

Commenting upon the expectations of the traders from the court, Madan said that either the court should defer the sealing or bring about a change in law, it will surely take into consideration that this matter directly impacts livelihood of lakhs of people across the city.

Civic bodies have undertaken the sealing drive initiated by a Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee on December 2017 last year. The committee is sealing business establishments that are using residential properties for commercial purposes. (KNN/DA)
