New Delhi, Jan 7 (KNN)  Growth of the MSME sector is necessary as it is the largest employment generator in the country, said Sidharth Birla, Past President FICCI & Chairman, Xpro India Ltd adding that the large companies ultimately employs proportionately less people.

He said that the start-ups are generally looked upon as the services sector, but now there is a need to push for start-ups in the manufacturing sector as well.

Birla said this on side-lines of a meeting with the Commerce and Industry Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman.

Sitharaman today held a pre-budget consultation meeting with the representatives from the industry associations.

Among other suggestions, Birla said that there is a need to boost domestic investment in the country for which the platform is being made.

The MSME sector provides employment to almost 10 crore people and contributes about 45% in the country's total exports and about 40% in the manufacturing sector. (KNN Bureau)
