Survey on growth of MSMEs in West Bengal underway: World Bank

New Delhi, May 20 (KNN) The World Bank in association with Ernst and Young (EY)  is conducting a research study to explore various dimensions relating to the growth of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) in the state of West Bengal.

The study is being done with a special focus on the use of the available inland waterways in the state and its significance in the transportation of raw materials and manufactured goods to the MSME units operating across the state.

The World Bank is partnering with Ernst and Young, a Multinational Professional services firm for conducting this research. They have already held meetings and interactions with various MSME entrepreneurs in the state. Discussions on the processes involved in production, raw material procurement, logistics etc. were held.

The survey further attempts to look at the various methods of transportation that is common and convenient among the MSME units operating in Bengal.

Bengal houses a large number of MSMEs and is also the second largest producer across the nation in relation to the goods produced by the Small, Medium and Micro units.

Also the state has been able to fetch good credit for the MSMEs in the past few years.

Government Data suggests that the state has witnessed a growth rate of 8 per cent in the MSMEs in the year 2014-15. (KNN/ DA)
