Bangalore, Nov 11 (KNN)  The inmates of Hindalga Jail in Belgaum are now gainfully employed owing to training organised for them in tailoring and designing, by which they are able to generate money while serving their jail term.

The initiative was taken by a woman entrepreneur from Belgaum, Priya Vandana Puranik, who is the owner of Flower Crafts Kuteera Herbal Products.

“We are giving training in tailoring to prisoners in the Hindalga Jail by which garments in beautiful designs are stitched and made available for sale in the market,” Puranik said.

The residents of the jail have been trained to operate machines which have been imported.  It helps them make attractive garments which are sold in the market at very reasonable prices.

“If this plan works out, we will even start exporting the stitched goods to foreign markets,’ Puranik added.

“We have already received many orders from companies which are satisfied with the efforts,” she said.

Throughout the programme, senior police officials provided guidance and support to the prisoners to enable them to earn daily wages for their families outside.

The initiative was an inspiration to female inmates, who were also being trained in making candles, aggarbattis and flower arrangements.

“This sort of arrangement is being praised by all women prisoners,  It has helped them earn money and contribute to the society in the right way,” Puranik said. (KNN/SD)
