Technology gap analysis studies to be made in MSME clusters

New Delhi, Sept 23 (KNN) The Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) will carry out technology gap analysis studies of certain MSME clusters with an aim to provide technical support to MSMEs by leveraging the knowledge base of nearby academia, R&D and technical institutes.

The move will build a platform for facilitating interaction between the MSME clusters and knowledge partners. 

The council will carry out the study in selected MSME clusters namely Mysore Printers, Phagwara Foundry and Engineering, Coimbatore General Engineering, Karur Home Textiles Manufacturing, Lakhisarai Rice Milling, Sitalpur Raxaul Rice Milling Machinery, Patna City Readymade Garment and Varanasi Silk Saree.,said a notification.

The study proposals need to be properly endorsed by the respective industry associations of the selected MSME clusters, it said.

The study will cover the areas such as preliminary background information of the cluster, technology status, projected market for the clusters, detailed technology suppliers or developers and technology gap analysis.

It will also include recommendations and action plan for making focused technological interventions in the cluster and provide suggestions for constituting mechanism or model and methodology to be followed for reaching out to the cluster by the knowledge partner.

Towards this, TIFAC is inviting proposals from nearby academia, R&D or technical institutes to conduct the technology gap analysis studies in these MSME clusters.

TIFAC has an objective to set up specialised sub-groups for examining and evaluating the existing state of art of technology and direction of future technological developments in various cross sectoral areas and other sectors of the economy. (KNN/ST)
